Carpentry, first fix to final finish

Time-served carpentry, from the cut roof nobody sees to the staircase everybody touches.

Carpenters fixing new rafters alongside an existing clay tiled roof

The work

Carpentry is the trade the business was built on, and it is still the one we are judged by. It covers two very different jobs: the structural first fix that holds a building up, and the second fix joinery you run your hand along every day. Doing both well is what stops a finished house feeling almost right.

Cut roofs, set out on site

Ridges, hips and valleys marked out and cut by hand where the design calls for it, rather than forcing a trussed roof into a shape it does not want.

First fix the finish can sit on

Studwork plumb, joists level, noggins where the plasterboard needs them. Second fix is only ever as good as what is behind it.

Second fix done slowly

Doors, skirting, architrave and staircases are the parts you see closest and touch most often. They get the time they need.

How it works

Step 01

Planning

Contact our team and let us know which service you need. We visit you on site, look at any existing plans, share ideas and get a plan in place for the work.

Step 02

Detailed Quote

We provide a prompt quotation including all costs and an estimated schedule, itemised so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

Step 03

Building

Once the quotation has been accepted we get to work, to the schedule you agreed, with an update from us every week.

Step 04

Final Checks

We carry out final checks and sign off once the work has been approved. We also provide post-completion support, so if you need anything further, just give us a call.

Common questions

If something here is not covered, ask us on the call. We would rather answer it before you commit to anything.

Yes. Plenty of our work is carpentry for other builders and for homeowners directly, from a single staircase to a full cut roof.

Usually. Older houses often have profiles you cannot buy off the shelf, so they get matched and run specially. Bring us a length of the original.

We build fitted storage, alcove units, window seats and similar in timber and painted MDF. Freestanding furniture is not something we take on.

On labour, yes. It is still the right answer where the roof is complex, where you want the loft usable later, or where trusses simply cannot be craned in.
